What are our normal business hours?
Thum insurance Agency LLC is located in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Our office is open from 9AM to 5:30PM Eastern Time, Monday through Friday. We do close our office to observe the standard National Holidays.

Can you fax me an ID card?
If you send an email to or call us at 800-866-0777 during our normal operating hours of 9AM to 5:30PM Eastern Time, Monday through Friday, and provide us with a fax number or email address. Under most circumstances we are able to fax or email to you a copy of your ID card right away. If you prefer to receive it through the mail just let us know and we will accommodate your request. Certificates of Insurance can take up to 24 hours to generate, so please request them with enough lead time. We will be able to email, fax or mail you the requested Certificates of Insurance.

When is my payment due?

What credit cards do you accept?
Each carrier has their own guidelines for credit card options. Please contact our office at 800-866-0777 to speak with an agent.

Are there payment plans available or do I have to pay the policy in full?
Each carrier has their own guidelines for payment plan options. For almost all policies there are multiple payment plans available. Please contact our office at 800-866-0777 to speak with an agent to find out what plans are available for your specific policy.

Can I be set-up for monthly EFT?
Most carriers do have an Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT) program available. This varies by carrier and by product. Please contact our office at 800-866-0777 to find out if the EFT program is available for your specific policy.

Can you insure my vacant home or mobile home?
Yes we can. Please send an email to or call us at 800-866-0777 during our normal operating hours of 9AM to 5:30PM Eastern Time, Monday through Friday. Let us know which method you prefer for us to contact you – phone, fax, mail or email – and we will respond to you within one business day.

What is Financial Responsibility all about and how does that matter to insurance?
Financial Responsibility is a reflection of a person’s bill paying behavior and use of credit. Financial Responsibility has been proven as a reliable predictor of future loss experience. Financial Responsibility looks at certain aspects of your credit report to generate a factor that impacts your policy premium.

How do I get a copy of the insurance score my renewal offer refers to?
On your renewal offer the name of the company used to run the Financial Responsibility Reports is listed along with their toll-free phone number. By contacting that agency directly they will mail you a copy of your current report.

Is Financial Responsibility reporting used to determine premium in all states?
No, not all states. The carriers that make use of the reports to determine premium vary by state and by product line.

What if I disagree with something on my insurance scoring report?
To dispute your credit report, you will need to work directly with the agency that provided you the report. Thum Insurance Agency does not have access to your credit report nor can we be an advocate on your behalf in the case of a dispute.

I am changing my registration from one state to another, what do I do now?
We can write business in all 50 states, so contact us directly to start the rewrite process. In most cases we will need to cancel your current policy and rewrite the policy under the requirements of the new registration state. Each state has its own coverage requirements that must be satisfied in your policy. To comply with each state’s guidelines, it is necessary to cancel and start a new policy.

Can I put just storage coverage on my RV?
Our carriers do not offer a “storage coverage” endorsement on their policies. For a “regular” RV policy, use is assumed to be less than 150 days per year. Accordingly the premium reflects that limited use and assumes storage for the remainder of the year. The advantage to this system is that full coverage is provided year-round without restrictions on when the RV has to be stored. So, if you decide to take a trip South in the winter you can rest assured that your RV is fully covered. For customers using their RV’s over 150 days per year, there is a surcharge added to the premium to account for that additional exposure.

Are helmets and leather jackets included on my motorcycle policy?
Helmets, leather jackets and other safety apparel are covered under the Custom Parts and Equipment coverage on your policy. They are covered only for collision losses, not for theft.
